In a VG interview, Unge Høyre leader Ola Svenneby takes a strong stand against those who believe that more police will help against the gangs.

– It is almost impossible to break the backs of the criminal gangs without attacking their markets. We can do that by legalizing hashish and cannabis. In Sweden, that is what this is all about. That the gangs have taken over the drug markets and are making a lot of money, he said.

Let one thing be clear: the Conservative Party will not overcome the black market by legalizing drugs.

The black market will always be able to sell cheaper drugs without taxes, at all times of the day, to all age groups and not least with greater strength than a regulated sale reserved for adults.

In other words: the black market will far from have bad conditions in competition with the regulated sales Svenneby paints in VG.

This is the case

  • This week FpU leader Simen Velle came forward with his story about drug use among young people. In the wake of this, the debate on drug reform and the legalization of cannabis has flared up.
  • On Thursday, Unge Høyre leader Ola Svenneby advocated the legalization of hashish and cannabis.
  • Several of the youth parties share Svenneby’s views on legalisation, both Young Left, Green Youth, Red Youth, Fpu and also parts of AUF. Of the parent parties, currently only MDG is in favor of legalization.
  • Svenneby says he thinks people will see that it is better that, for example, hashish is sold at Vinmonopolet or possibly pharmacies. Hadle Rasmus Bjuland, head of KrFU, completely disagrees with that. He believes that legalizing hashish and cannabis is not the solution, and that it would lead to two different markets with two different customer groups.

The result will rather be that two different markets with different customer groups will open up.

Drug exploration in one market will eventually expand to demand heavier and more serious substances in the other black market, which now has every right to sell more openly, at the expense of the safety of citizens.

In addition, Ola Svenneby only proposes to legalize cannabis. But why does he stop here?

By his logic, should we legalize cocaine, amphetamines, ecstasy and GHB? Backers will still implement this and make good money.

They will continue to introduce weapons and order shooting missions in Greenland.

Criminal masterminds will live well.

Tying the police’s hands behind their backs has been tried before. Portugal has been constantly used as a country to watch in drug policy after the decriminalization.

Today, the architect behind the “Portugal model” says that they are no longer a country to watch in drug policy.

Everything is going the wrong way there, with more young users, increased crime and a still large black market.

It is a myth that the “ban policy” in Norway has failed.

We are one of the countries with the lowest drug use among young people in Europe, and young people state that the ban on drugs is the most important reason why they do not want to use illegal drugs according to FHI’s surveys.

Why would the Young Conservatives want to go against knowledge, and throw young people into unimaginable risks?

The experience of states in the USA and Canada that have legalized shows a marked increase in cannabis.

There is an increase of 50 percent since the sales opened, in the five legalization states in the United States.

The same development has occurred in Canada, where use increased by 33 per cent in three years.

The highest levels of use are found among young adults between the ages of 18 and 25.

We need a stronger police force with more tools to uncover use and sales.

It is the most important thing we can do to overcome the normalization of drugs and prevent young people ending up on the outside of society.
