Strong wind and sleet forced the Vikersund organizers to cancel Saturday’s ski flying race for women in Raw Air.

The jury first postponed the start by 30 minutes, but in the next meeting they could not escape the decision to cancel.

The competition would have been the first ever in the World Cup with female ski pilots. The milestone comes instead in Sunday’s race.

Then, glorious weather and sun are reported from the morning.

The organizers hoped for the longest time that the wind would subside to the point that it would be safe to send jumpers down the mammoth hill in Vikersund. Varying forecasts meant that they did not want to make a hasty decision.

Received greetings from the superstar: – The wildest thing is that he knows who I am

– We look at different possible schedules where we try to plan according to the weather forecast, but also according to the needs of the TV channels. The TV images from Vikersund are broadcast to millions of TV viewers in a number of countries, said organizer leader Håvard Orsten in a press release on Friday evening.

Yr’s weather overview showed that the wind in Vikersundbakken could reach up to 17 meters per second in the gusts on Saturday morning.

On the men’s side, there is scheduled to be a Raw Air race from 4 p.m. It is unclear whether it will be possible to implement it.

Eirin Maria Kvandal leads the Raw Air tournament after eight races. She is 53.5 points ahead of Austrian Eva Pinkelnig.

At the same time last year, history’s first women’s gliding race was held in Vikersund, but these did not have World Cup status.
