The YA hype makes an unexpected comeback via James Dashner’s book series The Maze Runner.

The Death Cure – the last film from the TMR universe – had its cinema premiere in Norway in 2018.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes-director Wes Ball returns to the franchise as a producer.

The Maze Runner is based on a dystopian short story series written by James Dashner. Good boy Dylan O’Brien played the lead role of Thomas who – after a memory loss – woke up in an outdoor area with 30 other boys to let Lord of the Flies.

The group is surrounded by a huge labyrinth that they all fear.

Thomas is curious and works to uncover the secrets that lurk.

It’s no secret that Maze Runner-the series sought to capitalize on The Hunger Games– the success that ravaged the previous years. The trilogy did well after grossing $348.3 million. Against a budget of 34 million dollars.

The last two sequels – Scorch Trials (2015) and Death Cure (2018) – were the same size with USD 312.3 million and USD 288.2 million, respectively.

Dylan O’Brien was hospitalized with a serious injury that occurred on set. Something that postponed the final production.

Earlier this year, the entire trilogy appeared on the streaming giant Netflix, and rocketed relatively quickly.

Something that might explain the new venture?

According to American, the reboot will not be a retelling of the story, nor a direct sequel to the original trilogy. Wes Ball & co get a lot of material to work from when author James Dashner published three new books after the smash hit, albeit with a different character.

It is currently unknown who will direct the reboot.

Ellen Goldsmith-Vein (The Maze Runner 1-3) Lee Stollman (Life of Crime) and Marty Bowen (Safe Haven) are among the producers.
