Kummitus and Tähtipoika from Kivikylä are not going up into the starry sky this time, but to different places around the globe to highlight the Swedish language and culture.

The movie “Kivikylä – Stone village” will travel around at an ambulatory festival in South Korea, participate in an animation festival in Tokyo in Japan and be shown at an Inka film festival in Lima in Peru.

This is stated by Anstein Mikkelsen in Siivet in a press release to NRK.

Not the first film screening abroad

The animated film has already been shown at the Skábmagovat festival in Finland and has been included in the program of an animation festival in Bulgaria’s capital.

– But this is only for the time being, says Anstein Mikkelsen.

He says that he has experienced interest in screenings from a number of other festivals around the world.

– Even if there is no money earmarked for a Swedish film and we are doing this on a voluntary basis, we expect that the film will have visited all parts of the world before the end of the year, says Mikkelsen.

Not caught in Norway

He says that no Norwegian festivals have included the film in their programs yet.

– But the film has reached its main audience, the children in the Kven areas, says Mikkelsen.

“Kivikylä” is shown in a number of places in Troms and Finnmark in connection with Kvenfolket’s Day on 16 March.

In addition, the film is available for free on NRK TV and in the form of a full film and a series of five episodes on Siivet’s own websites.

Starting with new projects

– Due to a lack of funding, it took time before we were able to make a film in Swedish for children and young people, says Filmmaker Mikkelsen

Mikkelsen states that Siivet is now working on a new Kven animation series for children.

He also hopes for a project involving Kven youth, which they will start with if they get support for this.
