– Could it be that I have won? Woohoo!

Ella Norum Fredriksen laughs happily through the phone. As early as April 14, she guessed that the official snow-free date would be May 10.

– My husband said “no, it’s too early”, but I held firm. 10 May, it was right in, she says, laughing.

Fredriksen lives near Borgtun and works as a nursing assistant at UNN. Now she has won a bonfire barrel in Tromsø’s competition. And it actually suits her perfectly.

– I told my husband last night, “now we have to throw away the old fire barrel, because it’s broken”. I had forgotten about it, so now I was very happy, she says.

– What are you going to use the fire barrel for?

– Oh, treat. Grilling, she says.

– I want to go to the mountains

It is a tradition that every year iTromsø chooses a winner in the snow-free competition, where the task is to guess which date will be the official snow-free date.

This year, the meteorologists measured 0 centimeters on the morning of May 10.

Now it’s snow-free!

For Fredriksen himself, it is very important when the snow melts away.

– Yes, I want to go to the mountains. I don’t ski, so I’m waiting for the snow to disappear so I can go to the mountains on foot, she says.

The first trip after the snow is officially gone from Vervarslinga will be to Lakstind on Kvaløya, she says.

– I will have my best friend with me. We are ready, she says.
