– Most people in southern Norway get fantastic weather on 17 May, says meteorologist on duty Iselin Skjervagen at the Meteorological Institute to VG.
It is due to a high pressure An area in the atmosphere where the air pressure is higher than the surroundings, often associated with clear and fine weather.which comes from the north, and which moves south.
This is how it looks to be in some selected cities:
- Oslo: 25 degrees and sunny
- Bergen: 24 degrees and a mixture of sun and clouds
- Fredrikstad: 25 degrees and sunny
- Lillehammer: 22 degrees and sunny
- Stavanger: Cloudy and 18 degrees
- Trondheim: 23 degrees and sun
– Almost excessively warm for those wearing a coat?
– Yes actually! It might be better to wear a dress if it gets as hot as 23 degrees, the meteorologist acknowledges.
– How certain are these forecasts?
– Now it has remained stable for a number of days and it looks like it will continue to remain stable. And the high pressure seems to be quite large: then we tend to be able to see it quite far into the future. And if the forecasts work, the weather will be glorious with 23 degrees and sun in several places.
A city that is more uncertain is Kristiansand, because there are forecasts for rain in the south of Norway that might hit Kristiansand.
But it is not only on the national day itself that the sun shines. Already from the start of next week, the weather is forecast to be fine in large parts of the country, with high temperatures, little wind and clear skies.
In the north of the country, on the other hand, slightly more uncertain weather awaits.
– Nordland seems to be doing well, but further north such as in Troms and Finnmark it is more uncertain and the forecasts vary greatly, she says.
In Finnmark, too, it is not easy to tell which side the weather will fall on, because the area is just on the outer edge of the high pressure.
