Sport: Haugesund itself reports on the Icelander’s decision in its media channels on Friday.

Thorvaldsson was hired as late as October 2023 and led Haugesund in just seven official matches. There were two victories in the Eliteserien. In the cup, there was a shock loss against the 4th division team Torvastad in the first round.

According to Haugesund, the club management was informed on Thursday that the Icelander chooses to resign as head coach at the club. For most, the decision came as a bombshell.

– I had to check if it was 1 April when I saw the news, it was a huge surprise, but then I have no idea what is behind it. I really thought they would work together for a long time, says TV 2’s football expert Jesper Mathiesen to NTB and continues:

– They have set a strategy, brought in players and set a style of play where Thorvaldsson has been very, very central. It is very, very surprising.

– We were looking forward to a long and good collaboration with Oskar, but it doesn’t always turn out the way you want and think. We thank him for the effort he has put into developing FK Haugesund, and are now starting the process of finding his replacement. Our course and strategy for the club remains the same, says FKH chairman Christoffer Falkeid in a statement.

Thorvaldsson took over coaching responsibility ahead of this year’s season after Sancheev Manoharan had led the team temporarily. Manoharan took over when ring fox Jostein Grindhaug resigned in September.

Recently, Moharan has been an assistant coach. He now gets the main responsibility again together with Paul André Farstad and Kamil Rylka.

The trio will lead the team until a new permanent head coach is in place.

– I’m guessing that those who were in temporarily last year can manage this in some matches this year as well, but I don’t think it will be a permanent solution. I think that Haugesund will be looking for a new head coach, but then this seems quite surprising to them as well, and then you end up a bit on bare ground.

– It will be very exciting to follow what happens, he adds.

Haugesund is in 13th place in the table with six points after six games.

In Haugesund, you have to go on the hunt for a coach again.

Jesper Mathiesen is impressed by what Manoharan achieved when he led the team temporarily last season, but still believes that it is not him who will end up with the job permanently.
