Ascension Day, Young Left | Believes the Liberal Party will “vacuum” Norway for its Christian cultural heritage

--

Today is Ascension Day and the Norwegian people have been given the day off from work.

In addition, many people will take a “squeezed in” day off on the following Friday.

– Many people do not know what it is about

This causes the Young Left to react.

– We believe that we will convert several of the fixed red public holidays into red day quotas, because we believe that many of the old and perhaps redundant public holidays will improve if people can decide more for themselves, what they want to spend their days off on, says the deputy head of Unge Venstre, Omar Yagci to Nettavisen.

And continues:

– Among other things, we see today how many people you ask on the street about why we have time off today and whether they have any rituals, so I think many will say that they don’t have traditions today or know what it’s about, says.

Should be able to choose

Among other things, the deputy leader points out that Norway has to make “enormous” investments in our Armed Forces, and points out that Denmark has removed a day off for this very purpose. Denmark removed Great Prayer Day, which was one of eleven official holidays in the country, to great protests.

This happened after the country’s government calculated that the holiday would bring an extra 3.2 billion Danish kroner into the state coffers if it were converted into a working day.

– Norway should consider the same. We must ensure our own security against external enemies, including Russia.

He also emphasizes that it is not about removing holidays, but that people should be able to decide for themselves.

– I believe that if we get a red day quota then everyone gets to keep their days off, so others in society can take other types of days off. Some would perhaps use the day to celebrate Europe Day, or 8 May which is the whole symbol of freedom and democracy.

“Tired and disappointed”

On all public holidays, including Ascension Day, there is public holiday peace, which means, among other things, that you should not make unnecessary noise.

– I believe that rules that should prohibit mowing grass and the like on a normal day are overreaching that only make people’s lives more difficult.

Leader of the Kristelig folkepartis ungdom (KrFU), Hadle Bjuland, tells Nettavisen that he is “tired and disappointed” by the Liberal Party’s rhetoric.

– I get quite fed up and frustrated that the Liberals use every opportunity they can to vacuum up Norway for its Christian cultural heritage. In more uncertain times, I believe that it is all the more important to protect our Christian cultural heritage. We must have a safe foundation to build society on, and public holidays are part of this. Common red days are important to many.

– The Liberals want to weaken the Christian cultural heritage

He is clear that “holiday pots” will not be the same as a holiday, and believes that we are losing something unifying in society with that arrangement.

– The left talks about public holiday pots, but that is not the same thing. Then people will have time off at different times. Shared days off help build culture and cohesion. It is also good for family and community and days off together at times, where you can disconnect from a society that is very concerned with demands and results, believes the leader of the youth party.

When asked if he understands that people react to the public holiday peace, and the fact that you cannot, for example, buy alcohol on a day which for many is completely normal, he replies that the Liberal Party downplays it all.

– I think that is the whole problem. The left uses every opportunity to weaken the Christian cultural heritage in society. They may like it or not, but it is a fact that we would never have had all these values without the Christian heritage. I believe that the left trivializes the importance of. The fact that they are now again trying to destroy Christian culture makes me very upset. I’m tired of these rematches every single year.
