In connection with the state visit from Moldova, an energy round table was held at Norad. Here, the energy ministers signed an MOU between Moldova and Norway, which facilitates closer energy cooperation between the countries. During the talks, several Norwegian companies gave valuable insight into how they can support Moldova in its energy transition.
– I am both proud and humbled that Moldova is seeking closer cooperation with Norway in the energy sector. I think Norway and Norwegian companies have something significant to offer Moldova to meet the challenges they have in the field of energy, says Norway’s Energy Minister Terje Aasland.
The MOU will focus on cooperation in energy efficiency, renewable energy and smart digital solutions for the green energy transition.
Since the start of Russia’s war against Ukraine, Moldova has faced significant vulnerability due to its proximity to the conflict. The energy sector has been particularly affected. Despite these challenges, Moldova has shown resilience.
Norwegian support for Moldova’s energy sector has grown, helped by financial support for gas purchases in the Nansen program for Ukraine.
Moldova’s energy transition offers opportunities for Norwegian solutions, especially in energy efficiency, infrastructure, digitization and cyber security.
Moldova’s development towards energy independence and the cooperation with Norway underline the importance of international partnerships to meet energy challenges.
– I am happy to see so many business representatives here today. I hope that these companies will support Moldova’s green energy transition in addition to strengthening their own businesses. This is a win-win for everyone involved, both in Moldova and Norway, says Aasland.
