The city council in Kristiansand municipality decided in 2021 to allocate funds for a research project on the residents’ experiences of racism and discrimination. The report from the project is now ready.

The report “Structural racism in Kristiansand” focuses particularly on how young people with a minority background experience racism both in everyday school life and in the transition to working life.

Through a methodological approach that combines mapping of existing measures, qualitative interviews and surveys, the report focuses on uncovering the structural barriers and challenges these young people face, as well as identifying measures to reduce the incidence of structural racism.

The aim of the report is to contribute to a deeper understanding of racism in school and the transition to working life in Kristiansand, and to identify ways to meet and counteract structural racism.

The report was written by associate professor Irene Trysnes, senior lecturer Katja HW Skjølberg, senior lecturer Lajin Murad, senior lecturer Katrine Nguyen, senior lecturer Henrik Jørgenrud and associate professor Ronald Mayora Synnes.

The report from the project will be launched at Democracy Week tomorrow, Tuesday 7 May at 15.30 – 18.00.
