Politics, AUF | The Red Youth leader apologizes to AUF: – Dangerous language

--

Rød Ungdom met AUF in the Politisk kvarter at NRK on Monday morning.

AUF leader Astrid Hoem said that they have received strong reactions following the accusations from Red Youth that Støre and Stoltenberg are terrorists.

– I reacted strongly. We have been accused of pulling the July 22 card. This is a way of saying that this is something we should not talk about. We have experienced it from the right side. Now we have experienced this from the left, says AUF leader Astrid Hoem.

– Has no explanation

The accusations from Rød Ungdom leader Amrit Kaur came in a Tik Tok video last week. This was later deleted.

Program host Håvard Grønli wanted to know why Kaur chose to use the word “terrorist” as she did.

– I have no explanation, it was really badly handled on our part, badly done to AUF and you Astrid. There is no July 22 card, says Kaur.

– Many people write in the comment fields that we are terrorists, Red Youth must distance themselves from that and clean it up, says Hoem.

Calling Norway a war profiteer

In the Tik Tok video in which Kaur attacked Støre and Stoltenberg, she also accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of being a terrorist.

– Do you still think Netanyahu is a terrorist? asks presenter Grønli.

– Yes, I mean that, says Kaur.

– What role do you want to use about Norway’s role in the Gaza war?

– Maybe a war profiteer, says Kaur.

Hoem characterized Israel’s attack on Gaza as follows:

– I believe that what the state of Israel is doing to the Palestinians in Gaza is terrorism. We should recognize Palestine now and boycott Israel, Hoem said.

Member flight

Rød Undom has experienced an exodus of members after the publication of the Tik Tok video last week, Klassekampen writes.

– There are more people who have opted out, it’s an incredible shame, says secretary general of Rød Ungdom, Syver Kolstad to the newspaper.

In Politisk Kvarter, Kaur was asked to explain what she means by the term terrorism.

– It is using violence and war to achieve something political. That’s what went so wrong calling Støre, Stoltenberg and Tangen terrorists, because then I equate, says Kaur and continued:

– When I have been clear that I will not call Hamas a terrorist organization, it becomes a double standard that I cannot stand for. I apologize for that, says Kaur.

Dangerous language

AUF leader Hoem was asked if she means Rød Ungdom’s use of the word terrorist is dangerous.

– Yes, because then you say that there is no difference between Jonas Gahr Støre and Breivik, and there is a sea of difference. Therefore, it is appropriate that Amrit Kaur settles it, says Hoem.

– Do you agree that the use of language is dangerous, Kaur?

– Yes.

– Why?

– It becomes imprecise, it pollutes the debate climate. It sets a standard for what is okay and what is not. The standard I set was wrong, and it was unfair, says Kaur.
