Climate targets setr the entire country’s power production is in transition, we have to start thinking anew and we have to use more cards to be able to meet the need for power in the future. Norway has a great competitive advantage with expertise, manpower, good working environment laws and not least enough capital to invest in renewable energy, these are opportunities that other countries do not necessarily have to the same extent as us.
We must do not fall behind on nuclear power plants. I want Norway to be at the forefront of developing nuclear power plants that help cut emissions worldwide. By 2050, the entire world must be emission-free, this requires efforts from every one of the countries in the world, including Norway. Many people think of Chernobyl when they hear the word: nuclear power plant, but we must remember that the main cause of this accident was operator error in 1986 – a lot has happened on the technology side in 38 years.
We have competence, good working conditions and, not least, investment ability to make the process much safer. We must remember that oil was not and is not completely safe, but production has become safer over the years – this is a very important point for nuclear power as well.
I see for me that we should first establish state nuclear power so that we ensure good safety and general national control over this, and this allows more private companies to invest in nuclear power.
Norway can take the driver’s seat with this technology that has zero emissions, creates jobs and, not least, can produce much more electricity than other power sources. This is an important cause to fight for, nuclear power can ensure welfare in the future, cut emissions both in Norway and globally, and last but not least: Create more jobs, and transfer expertise from oil and gas to nuclear power plants across the country.
This must we could discuss, and not put the debate to rest. The Norwegian people and the international community deserve that the nuclear energy debate be taken up.
