Bus for tram, Ekebergbanen | Therefore the tram does not run

On Monday morning, there is still a bus for tram from Holtet to Bjørvika, despite the fact that the work on the Ekeberg line was actually supposed to be finished on Saturday 4 May.

Initially, the works were delayed for one day, until Sunday, due to unforeseen feedings. The reason why there is now still a bus instead of a tram on Monday morning is because of an incident at night.

– People have worked around the clock to get the tram on track. On Sunday, we had a work machine derail while working on the catenary, says communications advisor Tonje Bergmo in Sporveien.

– We are working hard to replace the work machine, she says.

Bergmo says that the derailment was handled by the fire service, which was on the scene in a short time last night.

She cannot yet say the exact time when the works will be finished, but will return with more information on Monday morning.

Unforeseen challenges

On Sunday, Sporveien told Nordstrands Blad that they had encountered unforeseen challenges in the final phase of the works, which steal time and create extra work.

– Existing infrastructure was worse than we predicted, and this has taken longer to put in place, she said.

– We understand that many people are looking forward to its return, and so are we. We are working hard to get the tram back on track.

More works in Kongsveien

For eight months, travelers from Nordstrand have taken buses instead of trams on parts of the section in Kongsveien because of Sporveien’s work on the tram tracks.

Although the work on the Ekebergbanen will soon be finished, it will still not be quiet in Kongsveien in the future.

Sporveien has plans to upgrade the stop at Ekebergparken, so it will be more accessible to everyone.

– The goal is to make it significantly more accessible to travelers than it is today, regardless of whether you are in a wheelchair, wheeling a pram or have poor mobility, Tonje Bergmo previously told Nordstands Blad.

In 2025, there are also plans for safety measures at the roadway in Kongsveien itself. Then the old guardrail must be replaced with a roadworthy guardrail, at least on parts of the stretch.

It will also make improvements to some retaining walls at Kongsveien 16, as well as a half-bridge that lies under the road. The plan is for this work to start in the spring of next year, and then the road must be closed to motorists.
