Scholarship holder in the field of physiotherapy/musculoskeletal health

At the Faculty of Health Sciences (HV), Department of Rehabilitation Science and Health Technologies, there is a vacancy for a one-year position as a research fellow in the field of physiotherapy/musculoskeletal health. The place of work will be Campus Pilestredet at Bislet in Oslo.

The scholarship period is four years in a 100% position, with a 25% teaching obligation.

There is extensive research activity at the institute. The Faculty of Health Sciences has two PhD programmes, and the candidate in question will be associated with the doctoral study in health sciences.

Admission to the doctoral study in health sciences is a prerequisite for taking up the position. Desired entry is 1 October 2024.

Work area

The position has been created to carry out the project “Towards personalized health care for low back pain. A qualitative study of physiotherapy follow-up for patients not eligible for spine surgery”. The purpose of the study is to improve knowledge about how physiotherapists, in dialogue with patients, can make evidence-based decisions for the treatment and follow-up of patients with back problems who have been assessed as not suitable for surgical treatment. The study will also improve knowledge of the biopsychosocial situation of this patient group. Three qualitative methods will be used: observation of clinical meetings, patient interviews and focus group interviews with physiotherapists. The project is financed by the Fund for continuing and further education for physiotherapists.

The person employed will be associated with the Center for Intelligent Musculoskeletal Health (CIM), project AID-Spine and the research group (Re)habilitation – individual, services and society.

At the Department of Rehabilitation Science and Health Technology, there are approximately 30 doctoral students who make up a young and vital professional community.

Teaching assignments will be associated with the master’s specializations in musculoskeletal health and in rehabilitation and habilitation, but it may also be relevant to contribute to the department’s bachelor’s education.

Qualification requirements

  • master’s degree in physiotherapy/health sciences or similar (120 credits)
  • bachelor in physiotherapy (bachelor (180 SP/ECTS)
  • Norwegian authorization as a physiotherapist
  • good understanding of and ability to use Norwegian (possibly Swedish or Danish) in conversations with patients and physiotherapists in primary healthcare

Desired competence

  • interest in the field of musculoskeletal health and back problems
  • experience with the use of qualitative methods at master’s level (preferably in connection with the master’s thesis)
  • ability to work independently and concentrated over time with work that requires analytical competence and academic writing
  • good skills in writing scientific works in English

Terms

  • admission to the doctoral program in health sciences is a prerequisite for taking up the position. In order to be admitted to the PhD programs at the Faculty of Health Sciences, applicants must have a B or better in the master’s thesis/major thesis and an average grade corresponding to B or better in the master’s degree.   • the final plan for research training must be approved and agreed upon no later than 3 months after joining

The position is paid in accordance with the Government’s salary regulations, position code 1017 Scholar in salary step 54, NOK. NOK 532,200.
