In just over two weeks, King Frederik (55) and Queen Mary (52) will make their first state visit to Norway as Denmark’s royal couple. On Monday, the Norwegian royal house shared several of the plans for the state visit – which may come as a surprise to many Danes.
Breaks years of tradition
Because while several of the plans were revealed to the Norwegians today, the Danish royal house is silent, writes BT.
In Denmark, only the date of the visit is known, while the Danish royal house’s website still states that the final program will be shared at a later date.
– It is the Norwegian royal couple who are hosting this visit. As stated in the press release, Denmark’s royal couple is coming on a state visit to Norway at the invitation of King Harald and Queen Sonja, says Se og Hør’s royal house expert Caroline Vagle, and continues:
– Therefore, it is not surprising that it is the Norwegian royal house that publishes the programme.
– Pretty thin in the ranks now
The official program for the visit starts in Oslo on Tuesday 14 May with a welcome ceremony at Honnørbryggen, a wreath-laying ceremony at Akershus Fortress and a meeting with Storting President Masud Gharahkhan.
They will also visit Oslo Science City and MiNaLab, where they will meet researchers and representatives of Danish and Norwegian business.
“The day ends with a gala dinner at the royal palace hosted by King Harald and Queen Sonja,” the program says.
Taking action
Furthermore, it appears that on Wednesday Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre will host the government’s lunch for Denmark’s royal couple at Akershus Castle.
In addition, the Danish royal couple will visit Østmarka in collaboration with the Norwegian Tourist Association (DNT) and take part in a city walk by Oslo’s harbourfront.
The state visit ends with a return reception on the royal ship Dannebrog on Wednesday evening.
The Norwegian royal house informs on Monday that changes to the program may occur.
