– It stings well during the day, said Tromsø’s Kent-Are Antonsen to TV 2 after another defeat in the Eliteserien.

The club has had a nightmarish start to the season where Brann, Haugesund and Kristiansund have also proved too strong so far. On Sunday, they were again a long way from three points.

– The match will be characterized by situations in the first half. We are punished mercilessly. I saw positive things in the game today, but we have to be tougher in both 16-metres, Tromsø coach Jørgen Vik told TV 2.

Sarpsborg, on the other hand, had a big upswing after a disappointing start to the season. The club recorded their first win of the season in the match and bounced back from the embarrassing loss to newly promoted YMCA on Sunday a week ago.

– It feels good to win, but there are many games left, you don’t get very far with three points. Many players made a good effort today, said Sarpsborg coach Stefan Billborn.

Two penalties

Henrik Meister came close to sending the visitors into the lead with a header just before the quarter ended, but headed wide. Shortly afterwards he was in front again, and Anders Jenssen saw himself obliged to bring him down.

Then the referee pointed to the penalty mark, and Niklas Sandberg sent goalkeeper Jakob Haugaard the wrong way to make it 1-0.

Soon after, he got the opportunity again from eleven meters. Haugaard was certainly on the offensive in the duel with Meister, and Sandberg doubled the lead.

– The Tromsø nightmare continues on its own artificial turf, said TV 2 commentator Endre Lübeck.

The home team came close to reducing the deficit just after the break when they had three chances on the break, but the ball did not go between the posts.

Instead, the blue shirts could counter with the game’s third goal seconds later. Sondre Ørjasæter didn’t need three opportunities when he scored his first goal for Sarpsborg.

– It’s not a great score, but I’ll take it, said the goalscorer.

Disappointing start

Before the match, Sarpsborg had only taken points against Fredrikstad (2–2) so far this year. YMCA, Odd and Viking have all proved too strong, and the club was third last in the table before the round.

On Wednesday, Tromsø meets Vålerenga in the third round of the cup. The Vikings then await away in the Eliteserien on Sunday.

Sarpsborg, for its part, will face Råde in the cup on Wednesday, before Lillestrøm comes to visit on Sunday.
