For UiT, there is an increase of 4.0 per cent in first priority applicants from last year.
– UiT is perceived as a sought-after educational institution with a relevant study offer, whether you come here as a fresh student from upper secondary school or want to top up later in your career, says vice-chancellor Kathrine Tveiterås.
There is little change in which studies are most popular in relation to available study places. Aviation, psychology, paramedicine, law and medicine are still the most popular studies.
More will become nurses
The number of applicants to nursing education at UiT is increasing. The increase is 13.1 per cent in the number of first priority applicants, while on a national basis there is an increase of 10.3 per cent.
UiT states that the bachelor’s degree in nursing in Hammerfest has received 69 first-priority applicants. This is an increase of just over 60 per cent from last year.
– It is very great that the number of applicants to nursing is increasing, we need that to be able to train healthcare personnel that society needs, says Tveiterås.
Head of Department for the Department of Health and Care Sciences, Laila Hopstock, welcomes the increase in applicants.
– We have many places at UiT where you can study to become a nurse. I think that is one of the reasons, that we are so accessible, says Hopstock.
Eight campuses in Nordland, Troms and Finnmark offer nursing studies.
Fewer will become teachers
There is still a decline in the number of applicants for teacher training. The decrease at UiT is 14 per cent compared to last year. On a national basis, the decrease is 4.2 per cent.
