Do you want to help make a real difference for patients, relatives and users of the health and social services in Oslo and Akershus? We are now looking for a visible and professionally strong representative who is really passionate about securing rights, quality and accountability in the health services!

In this position, you will lead and further develop the Patient and User Ombud in Oslo and Akershus and the Social and Elderly Ombud in Oslo and be a visible social actor with a close dialogue with patients, users, relatives and relevant authorities.

You will work to look after the needs, interests and rights of patients, users and relatives vis-à-vis the state specialist health service and the municipal health, social and child welfare services, and to improve the quality of these services. The work is carried out on a free and independent basis, independent of administrative and political management in the municipality. It is desirable that the Ombudsman is in the media and can comment on both individual cases and challenges at system level.

To be successful in the position, you must balance dialogue with user groups, services and levels of administration against the day-to-day work as senior manager of the Ombudsman. The office has 21 employees divided into three professional teams and administrative staff.

The position is a fixed-term position of 6 years with no possibility of extension.

Work assignments

  • Lead and further develop the Ombudsman, including ensuring that the guidelines for Oslo municipality and the Directorate of Health function as best as possible
  • Represent the business externally and ensure that as many people as possible know about the Ombudsman and can easily get in touch if necessary
  • Lead a business consisting of interdisciplinary teams and arrange for the best possible distribution of work and interaction
  • Lead and further develop a good professional environment
  • Maintain good relations with relevant actors such as the services and user organisations

Qualifications

  • Higher relevant education
  • Understanding of legislation in the health and social field
  • Management experience, preferably from the public sector
  • Very good knowledge of public administration and political decision-making processes
  • Understanding of the ombudsman role
