Next Saturday, there will finally be life and bustle in the city center again. Last year’s success is to be repeated, and several clubs have announced their arrival.

Then the pedestrian street and Rådhusplassen will be filled with beautiful vehicles from a bygone era.

– We are sure that it will help create life in the city centre, says general manager Tore Hammersmark in Skien by.

He says that there has been a report of lingering weather and up to 12 degrees. Last year, 130 cars and their owners lined up in the streets around Handelstorget, and the aim is to lure even more into the city this year.

– There will be thunder and shiny cars as far as the eye can see!

Everyone is welcome

Veteran’s Day is a collaboration with Grenland Veteranvognklubb (GVK) and is open to everyone with cars and other vehicles that are over 30 years old.

– We want as many people as possible to come to show off their vehicles. There are also opportunities for a trip in a vintage bus from the Bus History Association, and we have several surprises in store, says manager Jarle Rønjom of GVK.

One of the surprises is that a dragster will appear which visitors can see, but which for natural reasons cannot be driven in pedestrian streets.

– The aim is to cover approximately 400 meters or an English quarter of a mile as quickly as possible – in seconds. It will be fun to see it, smiles Rønjom.

In addition to older cars, older motorcycles and military vehicles will also be in place.

– All cars have a story and the owners are happy to share these with the public, says Rønjom.

– We had a car here last year and the owner was sure that it was the only one of its kind in Norway, of course there was another one, he chuckles.

The veteran wagon club in Grenland is one of the largest in Norway with over 420 members and 1,000 registered vehicles. The club is also the second oldest in the country.

– You won’t believe what our members have in their garages. Not to forget the knowledge of the cars, he says.

Start of the season

Saturday’s event marks the start of a long series of weekend activities to come.

– Now there is something going on every single weekend in the future, right up to the summer holidays, says Tore Hammersmark and mentions both tourists in his own town, concerts and the second-hand market.

– We want to show that something is happening in the city. There will be many cool cars at the weekend, and there will be an insane amount of people. And then it is entirely possible to use the city’s offer, whether it is shops, cafes or restaurants! advertises Hammersmark.

Now he is just crossing his fingers that the weather will hold and that the temperatures will increase slightly towards the weekend.

– Those who missed the great cars last year should definitely make the trip this year!
