Recently, two healthcare companies, Stavanger and Haukeland, were fined NOK 4.5 million for breaches of the Norwegian Health Research Act in the Norwait study. The study for patients with rectal cancer was stopped in 2020. Aftenposten has written about the scandalous study in several cases.
Among other things, the case of Hallvard Harholt. He took part in the study, had the cancer spread during the “wait and see” period and was operated on too late. He died last March. 18 out of 31 patients in the study at Haukeland did not receive appropriate health care. That was the conclusion from the State Administrator in Vestland. The study has also been called Norway’s biggest medical research scandal.
