The next of kin have been notified of the death, the police in Møre og Romsdal say.

Operations manager Tor André Gram Franck tells VG that the man was part of a tour group of two, who were on a ski trip in a high mountain in Rauma municipality.

– He fell down the mountainside and slid a couple of hundred metres, Gram Franck tells VG.

Emergency services and a rescue helicopter were sent to the scene. When the rescue team arrived, the man was pronounced dead.

– It’s just tragic, says Franck.

It was the other person in the party who notified the emergency services about the accident.

Per Hognaland in the Central Rescue Center tells VG that they received a message that there was a need for helicopter support. They then assisted in hoisting the person out.

At 17.15 the police reported that they had finished at the scene and that the skier had been taken out.

– After speaking to the person in question (the other person in the party), we will clarify the sequence of events leading to the accident, the police wrote.

Rauma municipality is known for its outdoor life, including ski trips to the mountains.
