It is 56 years since the Storting politicians in Oslo decided that the northernmost part of the country should get its own university. It happened on March 28, 1968.
Every year since the opening of the university in 1972, the “birthday” has been celebrated with an annual party, but since the date this year fell on Easter, this year’s celebration was moved to the first week of April.
– We have lots of activities and things that happen on campus, but also that involve the city and the business world, says UiT rector Dag Rune Olsen to iTromsø.
– There will be business seminars, debates and film screenings, for example, which everyone can sign up for, he adds.
“Nachspiel” on Friday
According to Olsen, Friday will be the “big” day.
– On Friday, we will hold a celebration where we will celebrate our new professors, docents and researchers.
Later in the evening, “UiT-Nach” is organized with live music. Vice Chancellor for Education at UiT, Kathrine Tveiterås can guarantee that there will be a good atmosphere.
– There will be a concert with three different bands and I hear rumors that there will be both jazz and sing-alongs, so we can promise a good atmosphere.
