From 6 May and up to ten days from now, wastewater will be released untreated into the sea. The pumping stations at Kongsgård and Kuholmen will be taken out of operation for upgrades.

Kristiansand municipality writes that on its website.

On this occasion, bathing is not recommended from the discharge date until 18 May.

– This leads to contamination of the water with intestinal bacteria, and we want to inform widely about this, as we advise against anyone bathing in the area during this period, says Jørund Haugland, engineer and project manager at the water and sewage unit in Kristiansand municipality.

– No permanent danger

The sewage from all connected households will be discharged directly into the sea in Kongsgårdbukta and Kuholmbukta during this period.

The areas where swimming is not recommended extend from Varoddbroa out into Byfjorden and are shaded in yellow and red.

– The bacteria will be naturally broken down in the sea and disappear after some time, so there is no permanent danger, emphasizes Haugland.

Expect noise

A collection foam has been installed at a depth of 12 meters where the discharge occurs. It is for things that float or sink, such as wet wipes and other foreign objects that do not dissolve in water.

The municipality also states that neighbors of the Kongsgårdbukta mobile home park, where the work is being carried out, must however expect some noise outside of normal working hours during the period in question.
