The fire service reports that they have the fire under control.
There is no risk of spread, and some of the evacuees have been allowed to return to their flats.
The residents of the student residence Møllendalsveien 52 are still evacuated.
Many reported the fire
The fire service received the first report about the fire at 05.35 on Wednesday morning.
– We received around 50 calls in 20 minutes about the fire, says duty commander Stian Kvam at 110 Vest.
The fire service came out with large resources from four fire stations. At 06.30 the fire service announced that the fire was under control, but the building is still burning.
– The fire is isolated to the building it started in. The extinguishing has a good effect.
The fire started in a listed building owned by Bergen municipality. It was an old concrete pier from the 1940s.
It was initially stated that the fire started in one of the halls of the waste disposal company Bir, but this is not true.
I don’t think anyone was in the building
No personal injuries have been reported.
– We have no indications that there was anyone inside the plant when it started to burn, says duty manager Stian Kvam at the 110 centre.
– As the fire subsides, we will enter the building and form a better picture of what has happened.
Operations manager Tore André Brakstad in the police says that around 300 people were evacuated.
– Several of these have now been allowed to return home, but one building has still been evacuated. Some of the apartments closest to it have had their windows broken, and smoke has come in. An assessment must be made there before everyone can come home, he says.
Møllendalsveien between Solheimsviken and Møllendalsbakken is completely closed to traffic.
