– The temperature will rise, and we will be supplied with warmer air masses from the continent. When we go from the chilly April to May – the last month of spring – we also get heat in the air.

This is what meteorologist on duty Per Egil Haga tells Dagbladet, and continues:

– In that sense, it will be quite a big change. When I say warmer weather, it means that parts of southern Norway get summer temperatures, i.e. above 20 degrees. In addition to a good deal of sun and little precipitation activity.

European summer: Heat, drought and precipitation

– The wish is fulfilled

By parts of southern Norway, the meteorologist means large parts of the country south of Trøndelag – i.e. both southern, eastern and western Norway. The week starts with low pressure and precipitation in the same areas, before turning to finer weather on Tuesday.

In Oslo, up to 21 degrees have been reported on Friday next week, according to the weather service Yr. For comparison, 13 degrees were reported in Madrid on the same day, 18 degrees in Barcelona. And while we are first in Spain, as many degrees are reported in Alicante and Malaga as in Oslo.

– It’s good weather news that many people long for, after the chilly month of April. It has actually been quite cold since October, apart from March, which was warmer than normal, says Haga and adds:

– Most of us are probably ready for summer heat, and it looks like that wish is being fulfilled for many of us.

They will also get some good weather further north, but the rainfall area will move north and affect the first days of the week here as well. Eventually it will be sunny, but not the warm air masses that hit southern Norway.

– Up towards both Nordland, Troms and Finnmark, one should not hope for much more than ten degrees. The southern part of Nordland – i.e. Helgeland – may get temperatures of up to 15 degrees, but north of Saltfjellet there will be more moderate temperatures, says the meteorologist.

Warns of record heat

– Shouldn’t last

– Can you say that summer is here to stay?

– I’ll probably have to pour some wormwood into that cup, because it doesn’t look like the summer heat will last. It will probably be a bit cooler as we head into next weekend again. Then we enter a slightly cool period.

– So it won’t be the start of the summer weather we see now – but a taste of it.

The meteorologist therefore encourages you to use the next week well, because a period of low pressure will affect the weather picture after this.

– Not so much precipitation necessarily, but a little more of the northern weather type – a little more clouds and maybe a little precipitation.

Warnings: – May remain under water

Warning about the risk of forest fire

A forest fire warning has been issued for large parts of the country, which will subside to some extent after a couple of days of rainfall. But the dry type of weather and the high temperatures will contribute to it quickly drying out again, Haga reminds.

– It is good to be aware of this when you are out in nature, which many will probably be in the nice weather.

In addition, snow drifts have been reported in the mountains due to the low pressure on Sunday and Monday. So if you are going to travel from east to west, you must be prepared that the travel time may be a little longer than usual.

– And don’t use summer tyres, because it’s still winter in the mountains, says the meteorologist.
