Electric car, Oslo | The Norwegian Public Roads Administration: Electric cars must leave the public transport zone in Oslo

--

Ring 1 in Oslo is closed while the Hammersborg tunnel is rebuilt and the Vaterland tunnel is upgraded. This will lead to increased traffic on the road network, according to the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, and therefore the electric cars must move away from the public transport area while the works are in progress.

– Electric cars have been able to drive in public transport lanes during rush hour when there are two or more people in the car. This advantage is now removed due to the accessibility of the buses. The proportion of electric cars in the public transport lanes during rush hour is now so large that the buses are significantly delayed, says project manager traffic, in the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, Halvard Gavelstad, in a press release.

– It is important to ensure the best possible flow of public transport and uniform regulation of the public transport lanes across state and municipal roads. Therefore, Oslo municipality also chooses to remove the option for electric cars to drive in the public transport lanes on the municipal roads, says Rune Gjøs, divisional director of the Urban Environment Agency in the press release.
