On 2 April, it will be 20 years since Norwegian set course for Italy. The first flight was fully booked and went from Oslo Airport Gardermoen to Pisa and took off at 16:20. Since then, Norwegian has welcomed more than 3.5 million travelers between the countries on board.

Magnificent cities, fantastic beaches, beautiful lakes as well as the world’s best pizza, pasta and ice cream are reason enough to pay Italy a visit.

– Italy is a treasure trove of a country and has a lot to offer Nordic tourists. Based on a growing interest in travel to Italy, last year we opened three new routes to the cities of Bologna, Bari and Bergamo. This summer we will fly to 11 destinations and will operate 13 daily flights to and from exciting destinations in Italy, says Magnus Thome Maursund, commercial director at Norwegian.

Since the first flight to Pisa, Norwegian has expanded its route network and now the company offers journeys from Norway to and from Milan, Rome, Verona, Naples, Sardinia, Sicily, Venice, Bergamo, Bologna and Bari.

– The collaboration with Norwegian goes all the way back to the first flight to Italy, and it is especially nice to see the positive development in the market. For the coming season, there have never been more opportunities to fly between Norway and Italy. The number of direct routes has increased in recent years, and this has resulted in significant growth in the number of overnight stays for Italians in Norway. Norway as a tourist country continues to be very popular among Italians. Nature experiences are a must, and fjords and mountains, the midnight sun and the northern lights top the list. Norwegian’s new and varied route offer is welcomed by both the public and tour operators. Many choose to visit Norway precisely because of the many new direct routes. It also plays a role that the euro is strong, so the Italians get a lot for their money when they are in Norway, says Elisabeth Ones, tourism marketing manager at Innovation Norway.
