– Good at home or best away at Easter?

– I think that the Norwegian Easter falls very early in the year. I associate Easter with spring, the resurrection of nature, as I am used to with the Orthodox Easter celebration from my homeland. As I am not a very keen skier, the mountain is not a choice I often make at Easter.

– Then I think it’s nice to stay at home, when it’s quiet and peaceful. On Good Friday, I like to go to Nesodden church, to catch the account of the crucifixion. Then I get the feeling of Easter.

– What is the ultimate Easter atmosphere, as you see it?

– It is definitely in Greece with the Epitafios which is Christ’s burial on Good Friday and the resurrection mass on Saturday midnight, with Easter candles, red eggs and then a feast on Sunday. Then it’s lamb on a skewer out in the open.

Rolling oranges

– Do you have any fixed Easter traditions?

I had many when I was a child and when my children lived at home. Now I take it completely easy and follow my mood.

– Tell us about your best or worst Easter memory?

I remember the first Easter I spent in the Norwegian mountains. I was a complete beginner and with newly purchased skis. My husband was so smart that he sent me off with some acquaintances who were going to a car seat, while he was supposed to look after and enjoy our son, who was small at the time.

– So then I went along up the mountainside, and finally made it to the seat panting. I didn’t know the others I went with very well, so somehow I couldn’t vent all my boiling frustration at my helplessness.

– On the way down again, I lost count of how many times I fell and how many oranges rolled down the mountainside. It was my baptism in the Norwegian mystery of Easter Mountain.

– What is your favorite food at Easter?

According to tradition, it must become lame.

– What do you prefer to read or watch at Easter?

– I am currently reading a very insightful book by Rashid Khalidi, which can be recommended, “The hundred years war on Palestine”. Have also started with “På overgrown paths” by Hamsun.

Clockwork

– Easter is a time to de-stress, do you have any golden tips?

Your own tips rarely work for others. But setting the alarm clock for 06.00, then reminding yourself that you don’t have work to go to so early and can sleep in, is one thing that can help people appreciate the time they have left over at Easter.

– Will there be time for any cultural or sporting excesses?

– There will probably be some dancing, a film or a concert.
