Traffic, Weather | Here the wind picks up: – Danger of column driving

--

This is what traffic operator in the Norwegian Public Roads Administration, Lars Nordås, tells Avisa Nordland.

On Friday morning, the wind picks up over the mountain passes, especially on Saltfjellet.

– It’s blowing well and jib flaps are gathering. We drive two plow trucks over the mountain and try to keep the jibs away, Nordås explains.

The traffic operator states that the fresh wind will increase somewhat, and will continue throughout the day and into the night. He therefore asks people to be prepared for convoy driving.

– How is the traffic otherwise in Salten?

– It is quiet and peaceful. It seems like most people have gotten where they are going.

– The way it is now, it’s going well, but there is a danger of column driving in a short time. We try everything we have to keep it open, he emphasizes.

At 14:20 there is still full activity among the plow trucks on the mountain.

– There is very poor visibility at times and a lot of crosswind, says traffic operator Kristin Lunga.

– As of now, it looks like we are avoiding convoy driving, but there are many vehicles, especially of the slightly heavier variety, that struggle to get across, she says.

This is the status on the road now:
