Easter is traditionally a high season for burglaries, and on Maundy Thursday a detached house in Andebu in Sandefjord received an unwanted visitor.

Surprised by the police

During the day, at least two men broke into the house and quickly took what they found of value.

They then filled up a trailer with what they had brought, but chose to leave it when they left the scene.

What they did not know was that the police had already been notified of the incident.

A patrol found the trailer parked at the house just before midnight, and officers decided to canvass the area.

A few hours later, the perpetrators reappeared.

As they were about to attach the trailer to their car, the police struck.

– Both were arrested and taken into custody. They will be questioned during Friday morning, says Jan Kristian Johnsrud. He is operations manager in the Sørøst police district.

The men are both known to the police from before, but are not natives of the local area.

– They had got in through a window, says Johnsrud.

Few break-ins so far

Although the number of burglaries often rises during Easter, so far not many have been discovered in the Søreast police district.

– We have had a few break-ins in businesses, but when it comes to private homes, luckily there have been few so far during Easter, says the operations manager.

– It actually applies to the number of assignments in general. Bad weather also affects crime.
