On Thursday morning, the police received a report of an injured skier on Melkefjellet in Lavangen municipality.

– Norwegian People’s Aid reports that it is difficult to get to the patient, the police said.

Norwegian Air Ambulance was sent to the scene. The person has been sent to the University Hospital in Northern Norway, Harstad ward.

The extent of the damage is unknown, according to the operations manager in the police in Troms.

On Thursday afternoon, a skier in Tromsø needed help to get down from the mountain. Volunteers from Norwegian People’s Aid moved out.

Almost at the same time, the Central Rescue Center in Northern Norway helped a tourist who had fallen and injured himself in Sherpatrappa in Tromsø.

At the same time as this person was taken care of by passers-by, another person fell, the police say.

– Two patients were flown by rescue helicopter to UNN, the police reported.

– It has been busy today, with three rescue operations at the same time, says operations manager in the police in Troms, Karl-Erik Thomassen, on Thursday afternoon.

On Thursday evening there were two new incidents in Sherpatrappa. Two people fell and were unable to walk, the operations manager stated. The Red Cross was sent to the scene.

Red Cross: Has crew out in the mountains

Simon Johannesen Møllebakken is corps leader in the Tromsø Red Cross Relief Corps. He says it has been a relatively quiet Easter so far.

We have crews out in the mountains and where people travel to be visible and available if something were to happen.

The corps leader says that it can be difficult to be safe when traveling out in the terrain now, even if there is a low risk of avalanches.

– There can be variations out in the terrain, which you don’t see. It is difficult to spot all the warning signs. Our crew is well trained in making safe route choices and giving good advice to those we meet out in the woods and fields.

He says that the Red Cross is concerned that people get out and enjoy themselves in the mountains, and that they should know that the aid corps is available.

Heavy snowpack and moderate avalanche danger

A warning has been issued for heavy snowfall in Nordland, Troms and Finnmark.

In Lyngen, Tromsø and Sør-Troms there is a slight avalanche danger on Thursday, according to varsom.no. There is a moderate avalanche danger in Nord-Troms and Indre Troms.

In Finnmark, and large parts of the country, there is also a moderate risk of avalanches.

Ingrid Skrede, duty manager for NVE’s avalanche warning, says that conditions are quite stable in several places in Troms and Finnmark.

– In some places, it is possible to trigger small avalanches in the latest pack snow. People need to be aware of that.

The supervisor says there may also be some naturally triggered landslides on steep, south-facing sides.

– Even if it is danger level one, you can trigger smaller landslides. Especially where there is a steep or terrain trap. It can be dangerous if you get carried away.
