The road traffic center fears the E16 will be closed: – I hardly dare to think about it

The Swedish Road Traffic Center fears major delays on the E16 between Bergen and Voss today. In the worst case, the road may be closed. The reason is that it can be dangerous at the site, says Ronny Sleire, traffic operator at the Vegtrafikksentralen.

A geologist will make an assessment of the area, but it is uncertain when the relevant person will arrive.

Yesterday afternoon, there was a closure between the Langhelle Tunnel and the Bogetunnel, and gradually manual routing with a driver’s car between the tunnels.

The background was a landslide outside the Langhelle tunnel. When fire crews came out to clear this away, they discovered masses of rubble in motion and several other unstable trees on the slope nearby, explains Sleire.

Yesterday and last night, the debris was cleared away and the clean-up job was completed in the morning. But there is still a lot of rubbish in the area.

One lane is closed. The rental car that went between the tunnels yesterday has done so today and will continue beyond.

– The stretch inwards towards Bogelia and the Bogetunnel is the most prone to landslides on this whole road, says Sleire.

There is a lot of traffic on vegan since it is Easter. In addition, the railway is closed, and there is therefore more freight traffic on the road.

– It doesn’t take much for there to be a lot of traffic build-up, which then happens in a very dangerous area, says Sleire.

E16 may be closed at short notice.

– I hardly dare to think about it, says the traffic operator.

He points out that, in that case, there will be a detour on fv. 49 and fv. 79 about Hardanger. These are roads where it is narrow and not suitable for heavy traffic.
