Several of slain Lisa Iren Karlsen’s (40) relatives are sitting on the bench when the trial against her accused boyfriend starts on Wednesday. It is painful, but important, says the deceased’s mother to VG.
Less than 20 minutes ago
Lisa was killed in Grue municipality on 1 March 2022.
The man, who is in his 30s, is accused of killing his girlfriend with punches, kicks and 17 stab wounds. Lisa died from her injuries.
– She is with us every day. As soon as a song is played on the radio, we can be reminded of her. It’s not something that’s going to go away, ever. Ever, says her mother Kristin E. Karlsen to VG.
Kristin says that she, and several close relatives of Lisa, plan to be present in the courtroom. She describes it as both painful and important.
– Many have a need
She says that it is difficult to describe her daughter in a few words. But says that Lisa was keen to help others, and that she was a wonderful mother.
– She was a wonderful mother to her three children. She often took them on walks and swimming. Especially in the summer. There are an incredible number of people who miss Lisa, says Kristin.
Lisa was also very concerned about her two younger siblings, a little sister and a little brother.
– She was both a “free spirit” and a lover of life. She was also an outdoors person. I have lost my absolute best travel companion. My support and help in every possible way, says Kristin.
Three knives
The trial starts on Wednesday in Romerike and Glåmdal district court.
According to the local newspaper Glåmdalen, the man has previously acknowledged the actual circumstances. In questioning, he has also admitted criminal guilt.
Experts who have assessed him have concluded that he is criminally sane. This means that he can be sentenced to punishment.
Among the evidence in the case are three knives.
State Attorney Johan Petter Bærland is the prosecutor in the case. He does not want to comment on the case before it goes to court and refers to the indictment.
The man’s defender is lawyer Simon Ladderud Stende.
– The defendant deeply regrets the tragic outcome of the case. He is very sorry. He will also explain himself in more detail to the district court this week, says Stende to VG.
The defendant has been convicted of violence three times previously.
