This week, Prince Harry (39) is back in his hometown of London on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the Invictus Games, which took place on Wednesday.
Hits the kids hard
The jubilee was held in St. Paul’s Cathedral. Duchess Meghan (42) stayed at home in the USA with her son Archie (4) and daughter Lilibet (2).
Ahead of the prince’s visit to London, there was great excitement about whether King Charles (75) would appear at his son’s celebration. It is a well-known fact that the relationship between father and son is tense.
Got good support
On Tuesday, Prince Harry’s spokesperson stated that King Charles was too busy to meet his son during Harry’s London stay.
Disappointing message:- Unlikely
“In response to the many inquiries and speculation about whether the Duke will meet his father while he is in the UK this week, unfortunately it will not be possible due to His Majesty’s full schedule,” the prince’s spokesperson wrote in a statement.
But sources connected to the castle claim to The Telegraph that a formal invitation for a meeting was never sent.
According to the Daily Mail, Harry received good support from his mother Princess Diana’s side of the family during the tenth anniversary. Diana’s siblings, Earl Charles Spencer (59) and Lady Jane Fellowes (67), were present, and according to the Daily Mail, they should have spent time talking to and hugging their nephew.
The royal family, on the other hand, was nowhere to be seen. They were certainly not far away, because just a few kilometers from the anniversary, King Charles held the year’s first garden party at Buckingham Palace. Among those present were Queen Camilla (76), Prince Edward (60), Duchess Sophie (59) and Princess Anne (73).
Prince William (41) and Princess Kate (42) were neither with Prince Harry nor King Charles. The former was at Windsor Castle where he handed out medals.
Open about the conflict
The last time Charles and Harry met was shortly after the news of the King’s cancer was made public.
Responding to the rumours
Harry’s sister-in-law, Princess Kate, has also been diagnosed with cancer. Royal experts have previously stated that it is highly unlikely that Harry will find time to visit his sister-in-law when he comes to visit. This despite the fact that the prince has previously described the princess as “the sister he never got” in his autobiography “Spare”.
Ingrid Seward (76), royal writer and editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, on the other hand, believes that the princess had been willing to meet her brother-in-law on one condition:
– If the king asks her, she does it. But since Charles is a sensitive and understanding person, it is unlikely that he will ask his beloved daughter-in-law for such a favor. The timing has to be right and it’s not now, she told The Mirror.
Harry has previously described a chilly relationship with the royal family, both in the Netflix documentary series Harry & Meghan, the autobiography Spare and in a number of interviews. He has previously stated that he is open to reconciliation, but that “the ball is in their court”.
The prince, on the other hand, has a good relationship with the Spencer family, and Lady Jane Fellowes is one of the first to meet Harry’s son Prince Archie, even before Prince William, writes the Daily Mail.
