Today, a new British documentary about Kevin Spacey premieres. In it, several men come forward and talk about “inappropriate behaviour” from the well-known actor.

The episodes are written from 1976 to 2013. Despite the fact that Kevin Spacey came out and strongly denied them at the weekend, one of the producers for “Spacey Unmasked” hopes that the documentary series can be “the start of a MeToo moment for men”.

She also believes it is time to start a wider discussion about behavior in work situations, writes The Guardian.

– I have made many programs over several decades about women who have suffered from inappropriate behaviour, so this has been a very interesting project to work on, says producer Dorothy Byrne, who is the former head of Channel 4’s news and current affairs department.

– Homophobic attitude

According to The Guardian, she points out that much that was done to women 50 years ago is still being done to men, and that many of them feel they have to put up with it.

– Employees today know that they must watch out for such behaviour, but they tend to believe that it is women who will be at risk. I believe it is a homophobic attitude to think that such behavior is something gay men accept. That is not true, says the TV producer.

Kevin Spacey chose not to answer in the TV documentary, but instead gave an almost two-hour long interview with the well-known and controversial journalist Dan Wootton last weekend – shared on social media under the title “Right of Reply”.

First time in seven years

According to Wootton’s YouTube channel, this is the first time in seven years that Kevin Spacey has given an interview. Spacey denies the accusations that appear in “Spacey Unmasked”, and calls them “just nonsense”.

According to Variety, Spacey is accused, among other things, of groping an actor on the set of “House of Cards”, and he is accused of “an aggressive sexual advance” against a high school classmate.

– I take full responsibility for my past behavior and what I have done. But I cannot and will not take responsibility or apologize to anyone who has made things up about me or exaggerated stories about me. I have nothing left to hide – you are my jury, says Spacey to Wootton, who is himself gay – and in the introduction tells about how he himself “was cancelled”.

– Lost everything

Kevin Spacey says that he has been “a rampant flirt”, that he has occasionally behaved clumsily in his checking, and that he has clearly “hooked up with some men who think they have been able to advance their careers by having a relation to me”.

– I was never their employer, I was never their boss, emphasizes Spacey, who is aware that it may not have been “the best decisions”, but that there was never “anything illegal”.

After the allegations against Kevin Spacey began to emerge, he has twice been acquitted in trials in the United States and England. Nevertheless, according to the interview, he has “lost everything” – both his job and his house – and “is on the verge of bankruptcy”.

“Spacey Unmasked” will be shown by the UK’s Channel 4 on Monday and has also been bought by the streaming service Max for viewing in the US.

NTB is informed that there are no plans to show it on Max in Norway for the time being.
