Program leader Henriette Bruusgaard (42) opens up further about cancer in the podcast “Open journal”, led by the influencer/doctor couple Katarina Flatland (34) and Harald Dobloug (34).

It was just before the New Year that Bruusgaard shared that she had developed breast cancer.

– Got breast cancer

“We never know what’s waiting around the next bend. I have got breast cancer. It feels vulnerable to share, but I believe in openness,” she wrote on Instagram.

In the podcast episode, she shares an update on how things are going now, some four months after sharing the message.

– I think it’s going very well, actually. But of course there are some setbacks during treatment where you realize that “shit, I’m going on chemotherapy. I have lost my hair. I have breast cancer”. They come occasionally, where I have a bit of a crying spell, says a choked-up Bruusgaard.

Afraid of death

The “Alt for Norge” presenter says that it was after a friend died of breast cancer in the autumn that she started looking for signs herself. For a long time she overlooked what could be changes, before she decided to go to the GP.

– Something was wrong

She was sent on for tests, where the doctors quickly determined that she had breast cancer. Although she had noticed changes in her body, the cancer news came almost like lightning from the blue.

– I was scared to death, because I thought about my friend. In addition, they could not tell me anything more than that I had breast cancer, she says, and explains it by the fact that the doctors could not determine how serious the cancer was right away.

– The weeks after that were nothing special. I felt a fear of death and could not sleep. It was very special.

Comes with prompt

Despite the fact that several tumors had been found in one breast, Bruusgaard was told by the doctors that they should make her well.

The time after the original cancer announcement was nevertheless difficult for the presenter. Much because the doctors could not know the extent of the cancer, and she had to take both CT and MRI examinations to check for spread.

Sharing cancer news

A month and a half after the breast cancer was discovered, it was determined that there was no spread and also no cancer in the lymph.

The 42-year-old is undergoing chemotherapy and will have breast surgery in June. She is now in much better spirits than she was a few months ago, she says.

At the end of the podcast, she makes an appeal:

– Go to the doctor instead of thinking it’s nothing. Check once too many.
