Since the launch of Warcraft: Orcs & Humans in 1994, Blizzard has been pulling the reins on Warcraft. However, it does not have to be like this for the foreseeable future, and the head of the entire Sulamite does not rule out cooperation with other developers.

In an interview with IGN, Warcraft CEO John Hight said he was open to a solution along the lines of Riot Games. Riot licensed out League of Legends to several studios to get the series out to more people. Just spreading the Warcraft universe is something Hight is very interested in.

– I’m open to it because I want to get Warcraft out to a little more people than it is now, and at the same time I don’t want us to grow so quickly that we can no longer serve the audience we have now.

However, if someone is to get the keys to Warcraft, they must fit the role perfectly. Hight admits that the list of potential partners is quite small.

– Definitely open to people who really understand what it’s about and who have a cool idea about how they can express Warcraft, and if we feel aesthetically that they will reach the level of quality we are looking for. I think that if we found the right partner and the right situation, especially if they were good in a genre that we’re not that good at, then I think we’re open to it, but it’s relatively new, Hight said and continued :

– I think it is good to use other companies that share our love of the material, that have a really cool idea, share our thoughts on quality and that have the ability to deliver. But now it’s become quite a small list, isn’t it?

Blizzard is said to have worked with Chinese NetEase on a new Warcraft MMO for mobile. However, that project went down the drain after the collaboration between the two companies broke down.

As far as official plans are concerned, Blizzard is in full swing with the 20th anniversary of World of Warcraft. A new expansion – called The War Within – is coming later this year, and plans are already in place for two sequels.
