Eurovision 2024: Broadcast time, artists and order

--

The stage will soon be set for the Eurovision Song Contest in Malmö, Sweden.

This year’s contribution from Norway is Gåte with the song “Ulveham”, but it was not a straight road for the folk rock group to Eurovision. Among other things, Gåte had to write a completely new text for the song before the Norwegian MGP final.

Nor are they the only Norwegian artists who will be on the Malmö Arena stage in May. Marcus & Martinus went all the way to the top in Melodifestivalen, and will thus represent Sweden in Eurovision 2024.

However, what has characterized Eurovision more than anything else in the period before the event is Israel’s participation in the music competition. Norwegian artist celebrities have signed a petition and over 4,000 artists from the Nordic countries want to boycott Israel in Eurovision because of the war in Gaza.

VG will be in place in Malmö all week and cover Eurovision continuously with the latest news, interviews and TV broadcasts.

Before the final itself, all of the participating countries will compete in two semi-finals. When is the Norwegian Riddle going to compete for a place in the main final, who are the presenters and when does the broadcast start?

Here you will find answers to everything you wonder about Eurovision 2024 and other common questions.

When is the Eurovision final?

The final itself is Saturday 11 May. The final show starts at 21:00 Norwegian time and is scheduled to finish around 01:00.

Who won Eurovision 2023?

Last year it was Loreen who ran away with the victory for the second time in Eurovision history. Thus, the final will be held at Malmö Arena.

Who are this year’s presenters?

In February, it was announced that Hollywood star Malin Åkerman (45) and actress Petra Mede (53) will host the Eurovision Song Contest 2024. It is the third time Mede has hosted the song contest, while Åkerman is making her debut in Malmö.

Digital voting form

New for last year was VG’s digital voting form. No matter where you are following the show, you can continuously score the artists. You can also share the score sheet with friends, family and colleagues.

In addition, you can follow the VG reviewer’s roll of the dice during the Eurovision final.

To participate, you must log in with a Schibsted account. It is the same account you use to read VG+, Aftenposten, Finn, Bergens Tidende and Stavanger Aftenblad. It’s easy to create an account if you don’t already have one.

Order in the semi-finals

Altogether, there are 37 countries competing in the Eurovision Song Contest. In each semi-final, ten countries advance to the final.

The so-called “big 5” countries (Great Britain, France, Germany, Italy and Spain) and the host country Sweden are already guaranteed a place in the final.

First semi-final in Eurovision is Tuesday 7 May. Then 15 countries will present their contribution on stage.

Order of the countries that will perform in semi-final 1: Cyprus, Serbia, Lithuania, Ireland, Ukraine, Poland, Croatia, Iceland, Slovenia, Finland, Moldova, Azerbaijan, Australia, Portugal, Luxembourg.

Two days after – that is Thursday 9 May – it’s time for the second and final semi-final. It is only in this dolphin final that the Norwegian Riddle will go out into the fire.

Here is the full order: Malta, Albania, Greece, Switzerland, Czech Republic, Austria, Denmark, Armenia, Latvia, San Marino, Georgia, Belgium, Estonia, Israel, Norway, Netherlands.

How many times has Norway won Eurovision?

Norway has participated in the singing competition for many decades, but has still only won three times so far.

  • 1995: Secret Garden – Nocturne
  • 2009: Alexander Rybak – Fairytale

Why is Australia in Eurovision?

Australia did not meet the requirements to participate in Eurovision as it is outside Europe. However, the country was invited to celebrate the 60th anniversary. The reason is that the broadcaster SBS is an associate member of the EBU (European Broadcasting Union) and has therefore broadcast Eurovision in Australia since the beginning of the 80s.

The idea was that Australia would only participate one year, but since 2015 has been part of the singing competition.
