Lars recommends, Easter | TV series that are perfect for Easter

--

Easter is the time for traditions. For some it is about Our Lord who sent his only child Jesus to earth to break our sinful nature, for others it is Easter trips with skiing, cocoa, Quick Lunch and that sort of thing hero big. Many people are also happy to raise their resting heart rate by watching something exciting on TV. Easter Crime is a classic.

Fargo S5

Genre: Crime drama
Age group: Adult/youth
Keywords: Creative, entertaining, exciting
Lars’ score: 9/10

I know what you’re thinking, “I haven’t seen Fargo seasons 1, 2, 3, and 4, so I can’t start season 5.” YES, you can. The seasons are completely independent of each other, with different stories and characters. You can just as easily start on season 5 as season 1.

In the small town of Scandia, Minnesota, Dot Lyon (Juno Temple) is arrested after an accidental incident with a stun gun during a school board meeting at her elementary school. After the arrest, Dot’s fingerprints are registered in the system, and a short time later she is abducted.

The series definitely has traces of dark comedy, at the same time it is more exciting than funny. I feared it would be too quirky, but I don’t think it is, and I would argue it suits most people. However, should it be the first thing grandfather has seen since Derrick, one could perhaps consider something even more mainstream in the form of expression.

Fargo season 5 has insanely cool characters, good storytelling and a nice balance between the serious and the slightly more cunning.

You stream Fargo on HBO Max

Broadchurch

Genre: British Crime
Age group: Adults, youth
Keywords: Credible, exciting, quality
Lars’ score: 8/10

Season 1 is the perfect example of a quality series from the country that masters crime better than anyone else. The action unfolds in the quiet coastal town of Broadchurch in England, where a suspicious death shocks the locals.

David Tennant and Olivia Colman give a masterful interpretation of the lead roles, and the characters must work together to solve the murder mystery.

The acting is top-notch, the script is solid, and the series is captivating. Season 1 stands out as clearly the best of the three. Season 2 drops somewhat in quality, while the series rises again in season 3.

You can stream Broadchurch on TV2 Play, Stream, Brit Box

The Boys

Genre: Superhero action drama
Age group: 18+
Keywords: Madness, engaging, exciting, creative, brutal
Lars’ score: 9/10

The Boys are set in a universe where superhuman individuals (Supes) are recognized as heroes, and work for a powerful corporation known as Vought International, which markets and makes money from them. Outside of their heroic personas, most Supes are corrupt and headstrong. The series focuses primarily on two groups: The Boys, a team of self-titled Guardians, and The Seven, Vought’s premier superhero team.

This is wild from start to finish, and is undoubtedly not for everyone. But if you like to have fun, and don’t mind the madness taking over, I highly recommend this one. It’s a mix of Marvel, Tarantino and the sense of chaos dreaming. But it’s not just crazy, it’s exciting and engaging, and surprisingly good storytelling. You are engaged, shocked and entertained.

You can stream The Boys on Amazon Prime

Sharp Objects

Genre: Crimean drama
Age group: Adult, adult youth
Keywords: Exciting, well-acted, believable
Lars’ score: 8/10

After receiving treatment for her mental illness, crime reporter Camille Preaker returns to her hometown to solve the murder of two young girls. However, she is forced to face and deal with her own demons as well. Amy Adams does a masterful job, and the role is well written as sharp, but also vulnerable and a long way from a typical Hollywood hero.

The series is from 2018, but I watched it very recently, and was engaged from the first episode. Well worth the time.

You can stream Sharp Objects on HBO Max and Stream

Acquitted

Genre: Crime, drama
Age group: Adult, youth
Keywords: Exciting, close, engaging
Lars’ score: 7.5/10

It is approaching 10 years since the Norwegian series was first shown on TV, but for me it is a much fresher experience – an experience I really enjoyed. The series is not perfect, but I struggled to put it down, and ended up reasonably tired at work “the next day”. There are a couple of things I don’t like, which mean that it gets a slightly lower grade than the others, but the experience along the way is very good.

It’s also no secret that certain aspects of it are inspired by “The Cousin” from the Birgitte Tengs murder, although it should in no way be him. It makes the series extra exciting, as it feels a little closer.

The series is less graphic and dark than several of the above, so you don’t have to be afraid that someone will be frightened along the way.

Acquitted, you stream on Netflix
