The Eurovision final in Malmö on 11 May is fast approaching. After Loreen (40) made history when she became the first woman to win the international MGP final for the second time last year, Eurovision fever has been raging in Sweden.
After several semi-finals, the Swedes finally voted for Norwegian Marcus & Martinus as their contribution to the international final.
The Norwegian twin duo are immensely popular in Sweden, and have been for many years. One of the residents who is very excited about Marcus & Martinus is Sweden’s Princess Estelle (12).
Jubilation at Haga Castle
Crown Princess Victoria (46) and Prince Daniel’s (50) eldest daughter has, according to Svensk Damtidning, the handsome Norwegians as her big idols, and the joy was over the top at home at Haga Castle when her parents told her that Estelle might get to experience the favorites Marcus & Martinus live in Malmö !
Estelle has long been a fan of the Norwegian boys. Six years ago, Crown Princess Victoria celebrated her 40th birthday on Øland, and a big concert was organized to pay tribute to Victoria on the round day. But the organizers had also thought of the rest of the family – not least Princess Estelle…
After the breakup: – Not looking for anyone
Redmed by Marcus & Martinus
When Marcus & Martinus entered the stage, Princess Estelle was very surprised. The five-year-old princess was smiling from ear to ear. But when the duo came to Estelle, and knelt down and sang to her, she quickly became red in the cheeks and very embarrassed.
Estelle hid her face in her hands, while dad Daniel and mum Victoria smiled and laughed sweetly at their daughter’s reaction. Estelle’s first meeting with the boys was broadcast live on SVT, and the incident became a big topic of conversation throughout Sweden.
– Marcus and Martinus have actually performed twice in connection with Victoria Day, where Estelle has been able to experience them up close. Very close indeed. In 2017, when the princess was only five years old, one of the twins knelt down in front of her and sang directly “You give me a shock when I think of you”, says Se og Hør’s royal house expert Caroline Vagle – and continues.
Took action
– A charming gesture that received a lot of attention in the media, but which also obviously made an impression on Estelle. She smiled widely, but naturally became shy and perhaps a little captivated. We can all imagine what it’s like if one of your big idols gives you attention like that, says Vagle.
Will Estelle blush again?
Six years later, Princess Estelle got to experience her favorites again, when Marcus and Martinus sang for Victoria on her 46th birthday at Borgholm Castle.
Now there will probably be another star meeting with Marcus and Martinus for Estelle in Malmö.
– The twin duo has been very popular among children in this country, and the hysteria has crossed the national border a long time ago. The princess just joins the ranks of many Swedish fans, but she has had the pleasure of experiencing them far more than most. And now the chance presents itself again! I’m sure both the princess and Marcus and Martius would think it would be fun to meet again in connection with Eurovision, says Vagle.
Heightened security
This year there is a very high level of threat around the international MGP final, which worries both participants, guests – and the police.
The tense situation is a result of the decision not to ban Israel from the singing competition. The protests from Palestine activists are numerous and loud, and the organizers are taking no chances. Security measures will be tightened across the city, which will be bustling with people from all over the world this weekend.
Cancels concert after death
The royal family has so far not announced their arrival, but according to Aftonbladet, they have nevertheless planned for Crown Princess Victoria and the family to come as a surprise.
But whether they will appear is far from certain. It is the threat situation that ultimately decides, a source tells Aftonbladet.
Desperate fight for the family
– Characterized by the situation
Israel being allowed to participate has been met with protests and demonstrations, and several have expressed a strong desire to boycott Eurovision if Israel is not kicked out. The situation in Gaza is something Norwegian “Gåte” has talked about before:
– Our inbox is full of messages, understandably enough, and it’s great that people use their right to demonstrate. It is with us all, and we are affected by the situation. It is extremely painful what we are witnessing, Magnus Børmark (41) in Gåte told Se og Hør.
– I’m all alone
If the situation becomes too tense, the police, who are responsible for the security of the royal family, may discourage the royal family from participating in the event. In that case, at least one princess will probably be very disappointed…
The EBU has now banned Palestinian flags during the music competition.
ABBA reuniting on stage?
For a long time there have been rumors that ABBA stars Agnetha Fältskog (74), Björn Ulvaeus (78), Benny Andersson (977) and Anni-Frid Lyngstad (78) will reunite in Malmö. A reunion of the legendary pop group has been predicted several times.
This year marks exactly 50 years since ABBA won with “Waterloo”, and ABBA are in the air like never before, after the new avatar show shown in London.
Ingeborg Heldal (50) is MGP queen in NRK’s ”Adresse Malmø”, and thinks it unlikely that there will be a reunion:
Towards Leonardo DiCaprio: – What a pig
– It would of course have been a dream to see ABBA reunited on stage in Malmö. Nothing had topped it! But unfortunately I don’t think that will happen. Possibly in hologram version, but I don’t think they appear live. But it is permissible to hope! At least I’m crossing my fingers! But there is perhaps no reason to hope for an ABBA reunion for Marcus & Martinus and the other artists, because it will put EVERYTHING else in the shade that evening, says Heldal to Se og Hør.
