In 2003, hotel king Petter Stordalen (61) and Ingrid Fuglehaug Stordalen (60) separated, after 17 years as husband and wife. During the marriage, the couple had three children together: Emilie (32), Henrik (29) and Jakob (27).

Stordalen says that he was very busy with work when the children were small – first when he took over the department store Steen og Strøm, and later when he started his hotel company.

When the children got older and started school, the marriage with Ingrid ended.
– Divorce is not something that comes from one day to the next, it develops over time. There was no drama in it, but an evolution that we grew apart a little.

It was during this period, when the children began to reach their teenage years, that the hotel king decided to be more present – something he points out that he has managed to achieve.

– I felt it more like: If I don’t make an active choice now, if I don’t realize that now I have to get on the field properly, then I’m in danger of losing the children. Everyone loves their children, so I thought I won’t lose them, I’ll try to be there.

He also goes into his thoughts on divorce.
– Everyone I have met who is divorcing says: “We have to think about the children”. But when you are a bit out of the divorce, you forget it a bit. If you are to think of the children as a father – then you start with the mother. Because the child also looks at it a bit. How are mom and dad?

Stordalen refers to his ex-wife as “the world’s best mother” for their children. After the divorce, they have maintained a friendship and, among other things, went on holidays together with the whole family. He is also clear that to this day he has a very good and close relationship with Emilie, Henrik and Jakob.
Recently, the 61-year-old has been married to Gunhild Stordalen (45), but is currently in a relationship with the former showjumper Märta Elander Wistén (32).
