THE LAGOON: He has the latest screams in football kits from international top teams on the walls, but on this particular day, XXL boss Svein-Eric Furebotten welcomes most people.

– These days I almost think that the more obscure, the better. If you don’t wear a white suit with the correct logo on it, he says, revealing that he is a Tottenham supporter on his neck.

– There will be a bit too many red suits in circulation, he says, laughing.

Wide action

Football Shirt Friday is an international action, where the idea is that to show that you support the action, you wear a football kit for a whole day, while at the same time sharing a picture of yourself on social media and donating money to the Children’s Cancer Association.

– Everyone has a relationship with cancer. If you haven’t felt it on your body yourself, you have someone in the family or know someone who has. When you also put children first, this is an action everyone can like and support, says Furebotten.

This is how you join the action

  1. Support the fundraising campaign with an optional amount to Vipps number 705404.
  2. Wear your favorite football jersey – at school, work or at home.
  3. Share a Football Jersey Friday photo on social media.

While the Swedes finished their campaign in April, Friday 3 May is football jersey Friday in Norway in 2024. At XXL, everyone is encouraged to leave the regular XXL shirt in the closet on this particular day.

– In addition to what the employees send in, XXL contributes centrally with NOK 30,000. We naturally encourage others to do the same, says Furebotten.

He expects broad support at work for this day.

– We mostly wear the same clothes all the time, so just being allowed to change them and show a bit of uniqueness is a little extra nice, says Furebotten.

From the stands to the field

Football jersey Friday started in England, but is now so established in Norway that the A national team is part of the team.

– The players on the men’s national team chose the children’s cancer cause as their heart, says Morten Morisbak Skjønsberg, media officer for the men’s national team to the Children’s Cancer Association.

The collaboration between the A national team and the Children’s Cancer Association has lasted since 2022.

– We get many inquiries about supporting various causes, and after a bit of research the players, led by the captain’s team, made the choice to collaborate with the Children’s Cancer Association. This means that the players’ willingness to contribute is great, says Skjønsberg.

The Children’s Cancer Association is of course happy to be on the team with the national team.

– The value NFF adds by creating visibility for the child cancer cause in its channels is absolutely enormous, says Irene Rivelsrud, head of fundraising at the Children’s Cancer Association.

– In addition to the flashes of light they create for children, young people and families, this visibility leads to increased financial support, which is used for further research into childhood cancer, she says.

Naturally, the national football team is not against an action that involves wearing a football kit:

– Football jersey Friday is naturally spot on for us. I hope we can develop the collaboration further, says Skjønsberg.
