Analyst Jeff Pu from Haitong International Securities is referred to as very credible in Apple analysis and leaks. Now they are sitting on something abnormally juicy.
“iPhone 17 Slim”
Pu claims that the iPhone 17 series will get a completely new design, but not only that: that the Plus model will be dropped in favor of a new Slim edition where the name reveals what will be the sales driver: an extra thin design. In addition, it is claimed to know the sizes and model names of all the 2025 models:
- iPhone 17: 6.1″
- iPhone 17 Slim: 6.6″
- iPhone 17 Pro: 6.3″
- iPhone 17 Pro Max: 6.9″
In that case, Apple will continue to experiment with this one model where they have switched between Mini and Plus models for several years. It has been rumored that the iPhone Plus model would be equipped with a smaller battery, but perhaps it makes even more sense with a Slim edition? It is also quite possible that Apple feels that they have been too rigid and conservative with the mobiles, and that they feel that they benefit from taking bigger chances with a completely new model.
12GB RAM this year or next year?
As you can see, the Slim model has a slightly smaller screen, the 17 remains the same and the 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max have a larger screen. These are panel changes that are already expected this year with the 16 series, but the design changes will not come until next year, according to Pu.
The same man also believes that the 17, Slim and 17 Pro have a more “complex” aluminum design, without going into detail about how it will turn out. 17 Pro Max will still be made with titanium, and will also get a narrower “Dynamic Island.” Pu also claims that the 17 and 17 Slim get 8GB of RAM (up from 6GB of RAM) and an A18 or A19 chip, while the iPhone 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max get 12GB of RAM (up from 8GB of RAM) and an A19 Pro chip. Whether Apple chooses to increase to 12GB of RAM on the Pro models already this year, due to iOS 18’s AI properties, we do not know, but it is quite possible.
