You will have to shell out just over half a million if you want the Xpeng G6 with four-wheel drive and a large battery.

NOK 419,900 including shipping and delivery. That will be the starting price of Xpeng’s very Tesla Model Y-like coupé SUV G6.

For that price, you get the entry-level RWD Standard Range model with rear-wheel drive, a 66.5 kilowatt-hour battery and a range of 435 kilometers according to WLTP.

Just over half a million for four-wheel drive

More interesting for most Norwegians is probably the price of the top AWD Performance model, which has both four-wheel drive and, not least, a significantly larger battery (87.5 kWh), which again gives a WLTP range of up to 550 kilometers.

Here is the price NOK 509,900, that too including shipping and delivery – just over NOK 25,000 less than an “equivalent” Model Y (which admittedly comes with a tow bar as standard).

The car measures 4.75 meters in length (identical to the Model Y), which also places it in competition with most other mid-sized SUVs on the market: Volkswagen ID.4/ID.5, Skoda Enyaq/Enyaq Coupé, Nissan Ariya, Toyota bZ4X and Hyundai Ioniq 5, to name a few.

In the upper tier of range

The engine delivers 258 horsepower and 440 Nm in the entry-level model, which results in 0-100 in 6.9 seconds. The top model comes with 476 horses, 660 Nm and 0-100 in 4.1 seconds.

The range of the Long Range model is approximately where most of the competitors in this segment have positioned themselves, albeit in the upper echelon:

  • Tesla Model Y: 533-565 km
  • ID.4 Pro 4Motion: 527 km
  • Skoda Enyaq 85x: 530 km
  • Nissan Ariya e-4orce 87 kWh: 515 km
  • Hyundai Ioniq 5 Long Range AWD: 481 km (larger battery comes on the 2024 model)
  • Nio EL6 Long Range AWD: 529 km
  • BYD Seal U: 500 km (only front-wheel drive)

Almost no options

Common to both G6 models is that “all” equipment is included – including heat pump, 20-inch rims, panoramic glass roof, heating and ventilation in the front seats, heating in the rear seats and heating in the steering wheel.

The only options are metallic paint (NOK 8,000) and a towbar (NOK 11,900) which can tow up to 1,500 kg.

When the car was first shown in Norway a couple of weeks ago, we noted that there was both excellent legroom in the back seat and impressive headroom in the second row as well.

The boot measures 571 liters by official standards (to the top of the rear seatback), which is competitive in this segment, but a good portion of those liters are hidden in two compartments under the boot floor.

We found the interior quality to be excellent – not as extravagant as you may have become accustomed to from some of the Chinese brands, but not distinctly “cheap” either.

Delivery over the summer

The standard color is white metallic, and the first cars should arrive at Xpeng agents during the quarter. Deliveries to customers will then also start.

Xpeng also tempts with a guarantee of seven years or 160,000 kilometres.
