Wall Street’s three leading indexes fell on Tuesday in what was Wall Street’s worst month in 2024. New jobs data came in stronger than expected as markets braced for the Federal Reserve’s upcoming interest rate decision.

The ten-year US government bond yield rose to 4.67 percent while the VIX index, also known as the fear index, rose 2.5 percent to 15.03.

“The Federal Reserve’s monetary policy committee is ready to signal later interest rate cuts than they envisioned in March, following several worrying inflation numbers,” writes DNB Markets in a report.

McDonald’s reported an after-tax profit of $1.93 billion, or $2.66 per share. share, in the first quarter. This is up from $1.80 billion, or $2.45 per share. share, in the same period last year. Revenue rose from $5.90 billion to $6.17 billion. The share ended with a marginal decline.

Amazon rose in aftermarket trading on Wall Street after strong quarterly numbers. The company increased its turnover by 13 per cent in the first quarter of the year, compared to the same quarter last year and is being rewarded with a price rise of around 3 per cent in the aftermarket on Wall Street.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) drove the results, increasing by a whopping 17 percent to $25 billion.

Oil

The price of a barrel of North Sea oil Brent fell 2.97 percent to $85.93 a barrel. WTI-oil fell 1.32 percent to $82.00 a barrel.
