A cooling-off is perceived on Wall Street. The S&P 500 ends weaker for the third day in a row as the market’s rally slows.

This is how the leading indices fared:

  • The Dow Jones fell 0.08 percent to 39,282.80.
  • The S&P 500 fell 0.28 percent to 5,203.33.
  • The Nasdaq fell 0.42 percent to 16,315.77.

The volatility index – VIX – fell 0.68 per cent to 13.10.

The US ten-year Treasury yield ended at 4.26 percent, down 5 basis points for the day.

Movements

There was a mixed mood among the technology giants on Wall Street. This is how it fared with Facebook, Amazon, Apple, Netflix and Alphabet (parent company of Google), also known as the FAANG stocks:

  • Facebook fell 1.32 percent to 496.38.
  • Amazon fell 0.76 percent to 178.35.
  • Apple fell 0.64 percent to 169.75.
  • Netflix rose 0.34 percent to 629.58.
  • Alphabet rose 0.40 percent to 150.67.

A diverse group of US stocks rose on Tuesday. Tesla rose 3 percent after struggling this year.

Seagate Technology rose 8 percent after a positive upgrade from Morgan Stanley due to optimism around artificial intelligence.

Krispy Kreme rose by just over 40 percent after the donut retailer announced it would expand its partnership with McDonald’s. The hamburger giant will sell Krispy Kreme products in all its American restaurants by the end of 2026. The phasing in will already begin during the second half of 2024.

Oil

A barrel of Brent North Sea oil fell 0.81 percent and ended at $85.38 a barrel. WTI oil fell 0.59 percent to $81.48 a barrel.

Crypto

At closing time on Wall Street, Bitcoin traded up 0.39 percent to $69.703 per coin.

Ethereum fell 1.52 percent and is trading at $3,573.47 per coin at closing time.
