The reason is said to be that two of the members are linked to an alleged Russian assassination plan.
Thursday 9 May at 21:09The Ukrainian Security Service (SBU) recently uncovered what it claims is a Russian assassination plot against Zelensky and several other Ukrainian leaders.
Two members of the life guard force have been arrested, accused of being associated with the Russian intelligence service FSB and of having played central roles in the assassination plan.
According to the SBU, the two were to recruit someone to abduct and kill the Ukrainian president.
Gift for Putin
According to the SBU, the assassination of Zelenskyj was supposed to be “a gift” to Vladimir Putin on the occasion that he was reinstated on Tuesday for six new years as Russian president.
– The SBU has thwarted the FSB’s plan to eliminate the President of Ukraine and other representatives of the top military and political leadership, says an announcement from the security service.
Assassination charges
On Thursday, Zelensky fired the head of the bodyguard service, Serhiy Rud, and no successor has yet been appointed.
It is not the first time that Ukraine has accused Russia of being behind assassination plans against Zelenskyi. As of 2022, the Ukrainian president claimed that ten such plans had been uncovered.
On Wednesday, Putin’s spokesman Dmitry Peskov would not comment on the information about the latest alleged assassination plot against Zelenskyi.
