North Korea is one of Russia’s main suppliers of arms and ammunition, along with Iran, which has supplied the Putin regime with thousands of Shahed drones.

Thousands of North Korean containers

No one knows exactly how large quantities of weapons material have been exported from North Korea to Russia, but according to Western intelligence it may be a question of significant quantities.

In April, the British think tank Royal United Services Institute (RUSI) published satellite images indicating that since August 2023, Russian ships have moved thousands of North Korean containers to Russian ports. It is believed that these may have contained huge amounts of North Korean weapons, according to Reuters.

Although North Korean missiles account for a small part of Russia’s missile attacks, there is concern that the regime in Pyongyang can use the battlefield in Ukraine as its war laboratory and test its own weapons there. In this way, they can draw useful experience and adapt and modernize their weapons.

Although many of North Korea’s ballistic missiles have been found to miss their targets, half of the missiles have hit their targets, killing many Ukrainians. In addition, Kim Jong-Un’s arms deliveries have helped to lay parts of the Ukrainian infrastructure in ruins.

North Korea has been subject to severe sanctions and is on the UN’s list of countries that violate human rights. North Korea is also developing its own nuclear weapons program. It is suspected that the country receives help from Russia in return for its arms deliveries.
