In what according to Russian activists is a piece of writing handed out in a school lesson in the Russian city of Chelyabinsk, the opposition politician’s supporters are compared to Nazis.
The students are asked to watch out for statements of support for Alexei Navalny – in the same way as people with pictures of the terrorist Anders Behring Breivik on their t-shirts.
Shared by Navalny supporter
This is reported by the independent Russian online newspaper 7×7, which specializes in news from Russian regions and provinces outside Moscow and St. Petersburg.
The original source of the image, which 7×7 refers to, is the Telegram account Chelyabinsk Budusjevo, “Chelyabinsk’s future” in Norwegian.
The Telegram account is associated with Boris Zolotarevsky, the former coordinator of Alexei Navalny’s movement in the Chelyabinsk region. Zolotarevsky, like large parts of Navalny’s movement, has fled Russia.
Hazard warnings
In the post, the activists claim that the pupils were given written material in a safety class at a school in the area, in connection with a test.
Here, a number of danger warnings are listed for what is referred to as disturbing behaviour. The warnings are claimed in writing to indicate “destructive trends”, such as “Nazism, political extremism, religious extremism”, and what is referred to only as “Columbine”.
The latter is apparently a reference to the school massacre that took place at Columbine High School in the USA in 1999, one of the most talked about of its kind.
Navalny and Khodorkovsky
Almost at the top of the list of things that schoolchildren are asked to watch out for is pronounced support for the late opposition politician Alexei Navalny and the exiled Putin enemy Mikhail Khodorkovsky.
The following is also listed on the same overview, as a warning to school children:
- Use of the swastika, “heil Hitler” greetings, or other Nazi symbolism, such as the number combination 1488.
- Pictures of Anders Behring Breivik on personal belongings, such as clothing.
- Romanticizing the criminal lifestyle.
- Citations of the Koran in relation to Sharia law.
The list also includes more obviously politically oriented items, such as “denial of Russia’s territorial integrity” and “the Russian status of Crimea and Donbas”, as well as “negative comments about Russian government officials” and “calls for demonstrations”.
Putin enemy: – A massive demonstration of power
Not verified
The list has not been verified by independent sources. However, the case is also discussed by the Russian, Kremlin-approved online newspaper Daily Storm.
Representatives of Rosobrnadzor, the Russian educational authority, state to the newspaper that the test is not issued by the state.
– If this was carried out, we must find out who was behind it. We do not know this yet, says the statement from the Norwegian Education Authority, according to the newspaper.
