When the European Space Agency (ESA) was to look for life on Mars, they discovered something very startling in the images from the planet.

On images from one of the organization’s Mars Express satellites, something resembling many spiders suddenly appeared. in what is called the “Inca city” on Mars.

Now the organization has finally found an answer to the cause of the mysterious phenomenon on Mars, which was first imaged in 2016.

Extraterrestrial phenomenon

In a press release, ESA reveals the mysterious phenomenon behind the “spiders”. The shapes occur when the spring sun shines on the carbon dioxide that Mars deposits in the winter months. The sun causes the ice formed from the carbon dioxide to turn into gas.

The gas shoots through cracks in the ice layer, which can be one meter thick, like a geyser-like explosion and settles on the ground. Then the gas with the dust particles settles on the surface.

The giant spider shapes are marked in the very surface of Mars, under this metre-thick layer of carbon dioxide ice.

– The carbon dioxide process that forms “spiders” is a completely extraterrestrial phenomenon, says Meg Schwamb, astronomer at Queen’s University in Belfast, to the Daily Mail.

The mysterious “spiders” can be up to one kilometer in diameter, ESA informs, and can be seen all over Mars, but especially on the outskirts of the “Inca city” on Mars.

Mysterious ruins

For the “spiders”, the well-known landmark “Inca City” on the solar system’s fourth planet is approaching.

Already in 1972, NASA discovered some strange structures on the surface of Mars. Something that almost resembled ruins from the old Inca Empire in South America, due to the linear and almost geometric network of ridges.

ESA believes these ridges are almost similar to the ruins from the Incas, such as the famous Machu Picchu in Peru.

How the formations have arisen is still a great mystery to the space agency, which has given the city the nickname “Inca City” or “Angustus Labyrinthus”. A popular theory is that they are sand dunes that have turned to stone over time. Another theory is that a material such as magma or sand has seeped through the rock.
